1. Bad or Wrong Repair
In Nigeria, this appears to be the most common cause of Face ID malfunction in iPhone. One thing you should take a quick look at is your camera. Often times, if your case is hindering the phone sensor array, definitely the Face ID will not work. One common reason for Face ID not being able to identify a user is if the lens and sensor array are hidden. Check that your phone case isn’t straying into the field of view, or if there are any marks on the glass itself.
Anything that blocks the camera sensors will definitely affect functionality of your face ID. Do ensure you always put the phone on portrait mode before using the Face ID (though iPhone only recognizes the portrait mode before you can unlock it). There is also possibility of dirt to have covered your camera component, especially if you gave out your phone to kids to play with. One quick way to fix this is to clean your camera properly and try again.
Also, if the camera is not working at all, then Face ID will not work. Another common hardware issue with Face ID is when the sensor is faulty, you will have to take it to a certified repair outlet to get this resolved for you.
Issues with OS and Settings
Sometimes if you are running an outdated iOS version, you can experience inconsistences around some of your phone features; that is why it is important to always get the latest updated version once it is available. In another instance, If this is the first time you’re using Face ID, or if you’ve recently updated your iPhone, then there’s a chance that the settings are not as they should be.
Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and then check to see if the feature is enabled and that all the options in the Use Face ID for: section is turned on. Also, avoid using glasses while trying to set your face ID up and also follow are guidelines as stated by Apple while setting up your phone.
